A Delicious Way to Start Your Day...
one of my favourite Fall breakfasts

Core and slice your apples...
Sprinkle with cinnamon and
saute in a little bit of butter
until tender...top with your
favourite pancake batter and
proceed as you normally would.
(we enjoy a whole-wheat batter
but you can use what you prefer)

The Night of the Hunter (1955)

is a BRILLIANT movie!!! Chilling and Disturbing!!!
The suspense...the battle of good versus evil...the
psychopath creepiness of the preacher portrayed
by Robert Mitchum will keep your eyes glued to the
screen...The Night of the Hunter did not do well at
the box office but is now considered a masterpiece.

While in college many years ago, I took a course called
Understanding Movies. It was invaluable in what it
taught me and I think this film should have been shown
in that class! Stanley Cortez's cinematography was
absolutely stunning!

Robert Mitchum is one of my all-time favourite actors
and his portrayal of Harry Powell is, I think, his finest
performance ever---totally believable. If he wasn't an
actor...

The children in the film have major roles and are truly
magnificent in their performances as well. If you have
not seen this movie, and you like a good thriller, then
I suggest you put this on your to-watch list! And don't
just take my word for it, you can check out the rating
on Rotten Tomatoes by clicking HERE.

Update Your Life List!

Time to update your life list! I just did!

Here is a place where you can swim with polar bears:

http://www.polarbearhabitat.ca/index.htm or
click the first picture for a direct link.

While it's not like swimming with dolphins where you are able to touch them, it is the next best thing! There is a wading pool for children (and the young at heart--like moi) to swim next to these magnificent carnivores...

You are separated by a thick layer of glass and will have an incredible experience only the brave can share! And with the shrinking Arctic sea ice...well, only time will tell that story.

The Story of Stuff: A Story Worth Hearing

Sometimes we need a little kick go get us started!!! You may have seen this video clip already, but if you haven't, I encourage you to take the time to watch it and to share it with your family and friends. It is simple, straightforward and easy to understand. It is shocking really, but if we are to take a positive from it, it is also inspiring. It will make you want to do more and use less! Please watch and pass it on:

What is the Story of Stuff?

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR Monday, September 08

Outside My Window...the sun is shining and everything looks so green still...I am very happy we are having a full-term summer!

I am thinking...way too much. About anything and everything. I am trying to quiet my mind with meditation.

I am thankful for
...not feeling like I have to watch the news anymore. I used to watch it all the time...to me, it's not the same...to me, it's not news reporting, it's entertainment news. A lot of the time I find it's the anchors giving their personal thoughts/feelings and trying to be funny and joking with each other instead of just reporting the facts...and a great majority of the time it's just too darn depressing hearing what is happening. No, I don't miss it at all...

From the kitchen...a pot of homemade red pepper and parsnip soup is about to be made.

I am wearing...tank top and shorts...yay summertime!

I am creating
...many greeting cards.

I am going...to be out walking and taking more pictures early this afternoon.

I am reading
...Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

I am hoping...to go out for a bike ride later today.

I am hearing...my fingers race across the keyboard and the hum of the bathroom fan.

Around the house...are many books--each one ready to be next on my list to read!

One of my favorite things
...is peanut butter. Cannot live without it! lol

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: washing up the fabric I bought...sorting some craft supplies...more walks and photographs, singing Happy Birthday to my sister via the phone (loud and off key---just the way the whole family is used to! haha Secretly I know they LOVE it! haha)...taking a bag and a box of donations in.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing:
This is a picture I took of a card my SIL had on her fridge...I think it just priceless! Super cute...

Quiz: What Country Are You

You Are Australia

You have an a great life, and you consider yourself very lucky.

Although you're thankful for what you have, you know you're also a bit of an underdog.

You are modest, authentic, and sincere. You don't boast... if anything, you're self deprecating.

You aren't formal, and people consider you to be very approachable. You remain relaxed and casual in any situation.

Silent Sunday...no words today!

Wednesday's Wise Words

The way we think, act or feel determines our attitude.
We have the ability to change our own attitudes---we tend to
think "attitude" just is...but it's not. We create it ourselves!
Don't like your attitude? Change it! It just takes time and
practice...think positively and treat people the way you want
to be treated. Who do you want to be around? A person
that is always negative, or one who is always positive?

It's a process that I'm still learning...being negative seems
to come naturally to most of us---what a shame it wasn't
the other way around so that being positive won out each time!

Kindness---Pass it On!

benefit ourselves as much as the recipient...

What shall we do today???

New Beginnings...

I LOVE SEPTEMBER 1st...

for the feeling of a new beginning that it brings
to me...time to start anew...create a plan of action...
it's like New Year's Day to me, but I actually have the
energy to do something! (Unlike the real NY's day when
all the excitement of the holidays has left me in a funk!)

My September resolution is to begin another 100-Day
Challenge
and stay committed to it for the entire time!
So, today I joined up and have officially started my
second 100-Day Challenge! It is my intention to carry
through with it and make my life what I want it to be!
