Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... Monday, January 25, 2010
Outside my window...it is still dark!
I am thinking...of creating a new to-do list for this week.
From the learning rooms...still learning to take the time to just breathe.
I am thankful for...my Momma! She's the bestest.
I am wearing... brown shirt and jeans.
I am remembering...old times! Went through some stored boxes this weekend that jogged a memory or two.
I am going...to put this house in order...I unloaded the car on Saturday night when I got home and never got to it yesterday! Oops.
I am currently reading...A Thousand Splendid Suns...Khaled Hosseini
I am hoping...for a better sleep tonight!
On my mind...a better question to answer would be: what isn't on my mind today!
I am creating...birthday cards
Noticing that...that people are not as professional at their jobs as they once were.
Pondering these words...In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life. It goes on. ~Robert Frost~
I am hearing...the sound of silence...but don't worry, I won't break into song!
From the kitchen...a grocery list is waiting to be made as I am off to get some grub soon.
Around the house...there are lists being made: to-do and grocery to start!
One of my favorite things...Burt's Bees Lip Balm!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... Monday, January 18, 2009
Outside my window...it is windy! Been windy all night...power outages all over the area, thankfully not here!
I am thinking...it feels good to get all this laundry done!
From the learning rooms...learning to take the time to just breathe.
I am thankful for...modern-day laundry practices! Especially with today's extra loads!
I am wearing... black yoga pants and a purple shirt
I am remembering...that we're all on our own journeys together.
I am going...to watch an old movie this afternoon.
I am currently reading...Jamie Oliver: Jamie's Dinners
I am hoping...for sunshine!
On my mind...family and friends that I am missing. Wished we all lived closer!
I am creating...an even more organized space in my craft room.
Noticing that...Common sense is rather uncommon these days.
Pondering these words...Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. ~Samuel Ullman~
I am hearing...the water running as my Swedey does the dishes and the noise of the kettle as it starts to boil.
From the kitchen...Beef and broccoli soup being made from last night's beef and broccoli dinner.
Around the house...the laundry pile has dwindled to nothing!
One of my favorite things...reading over the phone with my niece...have been REALLY enjoying that extra time together!

Friday Fill In

1. The lesson I learned yesterday was one I thought I had learned before!
2. Home Sweet Home is where friends and family meet.
3. All these years
and I'm still doing the same old thing. Slow learner. See #1 above! lol
4. The party started when I arrived. [No, not really, but it did fit well! *grin*]
5. The truth is always easy to remember!
6. The weather is what I remember most from that day.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to
feeling better...catching up on some tv shows, tomorrow my plans include organizing some more and Sunday, I want to go for a big long walk in the rain!

What Flavour Hot Chocolate Are You?

Vanilla Hot Chocolate
Vanilla hot chocolate may seem like a bit of a contradiction, but you are full of contradictions. You're funny but serious. Outgoing but thoughtful. Wild but traditional. No one can quite figure you out. You're the type most likely to handcraft the perfect hot chocolate at home. Your friends are blown away by your drink making skills. The truth is that you're a complex person with complex tastes. And you know that a little vanilla makes chocolate taste better.

Is Your Focus Inward or Outward?

Inward
You prefer to spend most of your time alone. Other people tax your reserves. You appreciate and enjoy your own company. You can always find a way to entertain yourself. You don't believe in being bored. In fact, you don't think it's even possible. With so many ideas, books, and places to explore, you are never lonely - even if you're all by yourself.

How Should You Stay Warm?

By Drinking a Hot Drink
You are an outgoing and optimistic person. You enjoy treating yourself to the things you love. For you, any occasion is an opportunity to celebrate. And why not celebrate a cold night with a warm drink? You love to gather with friends over hot chocolate, tea, or coffee. There's something magical about a cozy, freezing night. It may not be the best weather, but you know how to have a good time anyway. That's what you're all about.

Getting lost in a book

is one of the great delights of childhood...
I bought two copies of The Borrowers by Mary Norton and gave one to my niece when I saw her over the holidays. This was one of my favourite childhood books and I wanted to share it with her. On January 1 we began our daily long distance reading sessions via telephone. We read to each other for a minimum of 20 minutes most days and if real homework gets in the way, we have extended sessions on the weekend to make up for any days during the week we had to miss. A wonderful way to spend more time together...it is now one of my most favourite simple pleasures!

FOR TODAY... Monday, January 11, 2009

Outside my window...
it is raining and there is a wind warning in effect.
I am thinking...of the calls I must make this morning.
From the learning rooms...learning that good intentions aren't good unless they are followed through with.
I am thankful for... my love, who stands beside me and behind me.
I am wearing... dark green shirt and cotton multi-green plaid pj pants.
I am remembering...all the things to be grateful for.
I am going...to get out for a walk in the rain wearing my new bright yellow raincoat!
I am currently reading...Create a Magical Life...with Gratitude by Dr. Stacey Scott
I am hoping...for the best news possible on some upcoming medical tests.
On my mind...health concerns. I need to distract myself.
I am creating...not as much as I want to be but hope to be soon!
Noticing that...January is flying by too. Where are all the days going?
Pondering these words...The mind that is anxious about future events is miserable. ~Seneca~
I am hearing...rain hit the windows and the blowing wind.
From the kitchen...stuffed peppers, shepherd's pie and spaghetti sauce. Cooking in advance today.
Around the house...my to-do list is growing...wish I felt better so that I could get more done.
One of my favorite things...snuggling in on a rainy day with a good book.

Happy Birthday Swedey!

My Swedey was born on the same day as Elvis,
but thankfully not the same year....
or we'd not be a couple,
and he'd be 75 today!

Remember Me?

I've just finished this book and found it to be a funny, charming read...
and quick too, because I didn't want to put it down!

Gems of Thought to Start the New Year

Making the email rounds right now as the Handbook of 2010, these tidbits of info have been passed around as wisdom before...believing the value of them, I happily share them with you---perhaps even for a second time! I'm not going to go back through posts to see as they are worth reading again if I did!

Health:
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
4. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy.
5. Make time to pray.
6. Drink plenty of water.
7. Read more books than you did in 2009.
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
9. Sleep for 7 hours.
10. Take a 30 minutes walk daily...and while you walk, smile.

Personality:
11. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12 Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
13. Don’t over do. Keep your limits.
14. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
15. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
16. Dream more while you are awake.
17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
18. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.
20. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
22. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
23. Smile and laugh more.
24. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Society:
25. Call your family often.
26. Each day give something good to others.
27. Forgive everyone for everything.
28. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
29. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
30. What other people think of you is none of your business.
31. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

Life:
32. Do the right thing!
33. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
34. Time heals everything.
35. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
36. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
37. The best is yet to come.
38. When you awake alive in the morning, be thankful for it.
39. Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy.

and

Last but not the least:
40. Appreciate all that is in your life, and tell everyone that you should, that you love them.

Hello 2010!

While some of you might be feeling a little 'off' this morning, I'm happy to say that my early evening has me dancing around the house today as I tidy up all our holiday mess and prepare for this new decade. Hope you enjoy your day however you may spend it!

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”

~William Arthur Ward~
